I will bend...I will not break

Have you every had those days, weeks, maybe even month where you just keep thinking to yourself, "I JUST NEED A BREAK!!!!"?

Well, here I am, finally sitting down to write my blog that I have tried writing for the past month and a half because I feel I haven't had the time to write. I have written about priorities, what to do when you are feeling overwhelmed, told you that God will help you handle your anxieties. And I want to be totally truthful and transparent with you, I need to listen to what I teach others.

This week I found myself saying several times, "I JUST NEED A BREAK!" As a mom, a wife, a full-time teacher, a cheer coach, a business owner, (you fill in your blanks, because I know we ALL have a lot on our plates!), I sometimes feel like I am juggling so much! And here's the thing, I truly do enjoy all that I do. But this past week, everything I juggle suddenly seemed so HEAVY. I wasn't worried about dropping anything...I was more worried my arms would not have enough strength to keep juggling! Have you ever felt that way, like you can handle all that you do, but it just gets really hard at times?

Often we joke using that old adage, "God never gives you more than you can handle." It is true, it really is. When I saw this cute little quote, I knew I had to share it with you all. And I knew I had a great blog topic!

SO, what to do when you are feeling like you need a break? I can tell you my advice...but really my advice comes from tons of research. Are you ready for it? Here it is:

Yes, I said take that break you need! I just gave you permission! A study conducted at the University of Illinois Urbana- Champaign found that, "The brain gradually stops registering a sight, sound or feeling if that stimulus remains constant over time." (Lleras, 2011) It was found that by taking a break to prolonged tasks or situations, people were able to perform better, become more creative, and have greater focus.

Also, by taking a break, giving yourself permission to take the day off to go watch a movie, enjoy a meal, or catch up on "Dancing with the Stars" you have DVR'ed (okay, the latter one is totally what I do!!!), gives you a positive mental re-boot. When you give yourself that time to just "let it go, let it go!" for a day, your body responds in a way that allows you to be more positive.

Let's not forget to add some exercise in there! We know that exercise increases your endorhpians, the "feel good" chemical that is created when we get our bodies moving. Or even sitting quietly and focusing on mindful breathing will help do the same!

So, go ahead. Take a break. And know that you are NOT alone. I am here for you. But mostly, GOD is here for you. He will NOT let you break.

But learning to bend may be just what you need. Bending...it's part of exercise. It keeps us flexible. And I have faith that God likes to keep us in a state of being flexible...so I know on the day I decide to just take a break, I will start and end my day with thanking the Lord for all He has brought before me, for making me capable of doing great things. I will ask Him to give me strength to juggle the things He has asked me to do. And I will Praise Him for He is always with me!

What will you do?
